The sr. data architect/engineer will be part of the ICT Business Intelligence team in Italy, reporting to the ICT BI manager.

The sr. data architect/engineer will provide overall direction, guidance, and definition for the data architecture necessary to effectively support the global and Italian business strategy. Must interact across multiple business areas, and proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects to ensure the success of enterprise-level rollouts along with the development of appropriate data deliverables. Responsible for developing data architecture patterns, approaches, and solutions that are aligned with the objectives and standards of the enterprise data strategy and enable optimal performance, stability, and extensibility.

Randstad is moving to a globally harmonized operating model. Global cross-country standardization of tools and processes will support this transition. The sr. architect/engineer is to own part of these global tools and capabilities for Italy, drive implementation, and in parallel develop the product to the needs of its customers.

We are looking for an sr. data architect/engineer to take ownership of an existing data platform and refactor it to new technology (e.g. dbt), while in parallel cleaning up some incurred technical debt. Next to this a new big project to deliver business value through data products is about to kick off and needs to be designed and developed

your typical day includes:

35% Create the conceptual architecture and data solution design for projects (conceptual model, integration model, sourcing) in alignment with the portfolio and enterprise data strategy. Translate enterprise or business needs into future-proof information architecture patterns and solutions. Provide governance oversight to ensure project adherence to (global) data strategy, principles, standards, policies and procedures throughout all project phases. Partner with global and other countries to ensure alignment and integration across portfolio boundaries and promote an enterprise focus on data management. 

35% hands-on get stuff done! together with your team of 2 junior/medior data engineers: 

● implement new data lake(s), warehouses, marts, pipelines, and transformations. main tasks include business requirements analysis, development, testing, and maintenance

● play a leading role in the development of the team - coach the junior team members, perform code reviews, engage in technical discussions, and ensure the overall technical quality of the platform

● contribute to maintenance activities and change requests to ensure the continuity and evolution of the BI solutions

● document functional and technical analysis of the implemented solutions

● ensure data quality and privacy of the information

30% communication, communication, and communication; towards business stakeholders, internal & global IT departments, and your own team. A successful candidate will have to be organizationally sensitive and have the ability to apply different leadership styles.

Also includes mentoring, coaching, and training junior and medior team members to develop themselves and over time take on more senior responsibilities.

your background

● you have a bachelor or master degree in a relevant field

● 5 years of experience in a similar role or as a technical consultant

● in-depth understanding of data- modeling and warehousing principles

● good technical understanding of products, up-to-date on industry standards and best practices in the data engineering space (business intelligence is a plus)

● Experience working with cloud technologies - GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.

● Experience working with Google Bigquery, dbt, Airflow, Dataflow is a big plus

● Excellent knowledge of SQL, Python or other programming languages

● Knowledge of business intelligence tools (Tableau is a plus)

● An affinity for or experience within application development / devops is a plus

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills (at least in English)

● Strong collaborative interpersonal skills to work across diverse, global teams

● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

● Strong sense of commitment to deliver

● Proficiency working with JIRA, Confluence, or similar product management tools is a plus

● Ability to consult with and identify needs of internal employees and customers in order to drive value creation
