Your environment:

In Payment and Settlement Services (PSS), we are looking for a Test Chapter Lead for Testing chapter in the SEPA Payment Processing area. In this department, we have built an in-house SEPA Payment processing engine based on Java and Tibco technology stack, processing more than 3 billion transactions every year, both real-time and through batch processing. Our Payment engine has come a long way since its first creation during a Hackathon in 2014 and we are not yet there. We are on our way to centralise this platform for processing of Instant Payment across European counties and building SEPA Direct Debit capability within this payment engine.

The SEPA Payment Processing Engine includes multiple applications, having integration with variety of other systems and overall has a complex application landscape and many functional flows which makes quality control within delivery practices very critical .

The engineering team that you will be responsible for and part of, are located in the Netherlands, India and Philippines. Together with the other chapter leads you will look for the best ways to deliver fast and high quality software while maintain the stability of existing system. You’re continuously looking for improvements in our way of working, while ensuring a safe and compliant bank. Our IT Chapter Leads have a positive can-do mindset and they live the Orange Code Behaviour. Besides a passion for IT, Chapter Leads have strong people management and coaching skills. 


  • As an IT Chapter Lead you are a senior engineer and you are seen by colleagues as a go-to person. You have not only a strong drive to constantly keep your own expertise up to speed, but also want to make an active contribution to the development and advancement of the people in your chapter and your field.
  • You are an energetic Chapter Lead with expertise in engineering, people management and affinity with run and maintenance of critical applications. You are an Expert Test Engineer, and this will be your role in the squad for 60% of your time. The remaining 40% you spend on building up expertise in your chapter and developing your chapter members.
  • The people in your chapter are equally ambitious as you, and you like to transfer your expertise to them and feel satisfaction from coaching (both professionally as personally) less senior chapter members. You are ambitious with what you and your Chapter want to achieve. You stimulate your Chapter members towards continuous improvement of their skills. You speak up and challenge the status quo.


You have:

  • Strong people management and coaching skills
  • Clear understanding of testing technologies and developments. We see IT Chapter Leads as senior engineers who carve the path of the bank’s transformation
  • You have the ability to manage the day-to-day testing activities next to your lead function
  • You have at least 7 years’ experience in testing of back-end systems, consisting of multiple services/APIs
  • You have at least 5 years’ experience in testing with Cucumber/Java
  • Experienced in incident management, both technically and in stakeholder management 
  • Understand both the technical parts of the application chain and the customer point of view 
  • Experience with cross cultural and cross time zone collaboration 
  • Experience in Agile / Scrum / DevOps methodologies

Desirable experiences: 

  1. Working with technologies like Java, AzureDevOps, Docker, Cassandra, Oracle, JMS, Kafka and Tibco
  2. Parasoft SOAtest
  3. Banking industry experience and knowledge of ISO20022, Swift and SEPA
