The Compliance Department promotes and enforces compliance with the law, drives a culture of compliance and ethical conduct in the Bank.

We do this by: developing and maintaining an open and transparent dialogue with regulators; providing timely, risk-based guidance, support and challenge to internal stakeholders; identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring and reporting on compliance risk; attracting, developing and retaining professionals who work together to deliver superior performance.


The Compliance Testing (CT) team is responsible for providing assurance on the design and operating effectiveness of the business’ control environment and/or adherence to the applicable regulations and the Bank’s policies.

The Compliance Testing team in the Netherlands develops and executes an annual, risk-based testing plan that covers the Compliance risk types across all businesses in the Netherlands and other countries in the EMEA region, where CT does not have local presence. The scope of countries that are covered out of the Netherlands include: France, Austria, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, Greece, Israel and Ukraine. The business divisions that are present in the Netherlands and the countries in scope of coverage include Corporate Bank, Investment Bank, Wealth Management and Asset management.

Key Responsibilities

o    Actively lead the CT team; manage and develop the talent to encourage high performance (while addressing poor performance or development needs appropriately).

o    Define the annual Compliance Testing plan for the countries in scope of coverage to ensure the right risks are covered and in line with the CT methodology.

o    Manage successful delivery of the annual plan to the deadlines agreed and the standards defined in the global CT framework. Drive the culture of execution.

o    Review and approve documents related to testing. Ensure testing results are communicated using high quality reports.

o    Facilitate the process of agreeing issues and remediation actions with the business, and tracking them to completion. Review and validate actions/issues closure.

o    Supervise the timely and accurate updates to the relevant tracking system with information on the reviews and their progress.

o    Support continuous enhancement of the testing programme by identifying improvements and implementing them, while ensuring the programme remains aligned to the global CT framework.

o    Produce high quality management information (MI) on the reviews and the findings identified to enable read-across (e.g. with other countries or divisions).

o    Establish and maintain effective communication channels and working relationships with relevant stakeholders in the business and other control functions.

o    Liaise with the wider Compliance organisation and other control functions (e.g. Divisional Control Office, Business Control Unit, non-financial risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, COO, Risk, etc.) to ensure a coordinated approach and effective resolution of issues.

o    Represent CT at relevant Business and Compliance governance forums as appropriate.


You will have:

o    Experience of working in a Compliance, Risk or Control function, preferably in a testing role is necessary.

o    Excellent knowledge of banking/financial markets business environment and products.

o    Excellent knowledge of the EU financial markets rules and regulations.

o    Good knowledge of the local financial markets rules and regulations for countries in scope.

o    Language skills: fluent in Dutch and English is mandatory and preferably one other European language (Dutch language is a must!)

o    An ability to think critically and identify areas for process improvement.

o    An ability to work to tight deadlines whilst achieving high quality outputs.

o    A positive, collaborative and flexible approach required to operate in a constantly changing environment.

o    Excellent talent management skills that can motivate and enable each member of the team to deliver high performance.

o    Excellent writing skills. An ability to produce high quality reports and management information.

o    Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to describe complex issues clearly and succinctly in ways that are easily understandable by others.

o    Experience of building and managing relationships with Senior Stakeholders and an ability to influence Senior Stakeholders and colleagues.

o    An ability to effectively communicate and align multiple stakeholders towards a common goal.

o    Availability to travel to the countries in scope of coverage as and when required (this will differ year on year).

o    Structured and organised in approach, demonstrating a high level of diligence and attention to detail – ability to ensure high quality and consistency in the deliverables produced.

o    Results orientated and able to work in a fast paced environment within tight deadlines while simultaneously managing multiple reviews.

o    Proactive – will seek to find the right solution and options to issues within and outside their specific remit, without being prompted and within an appropriate matrix management framework.

o    Assertive and engaging and able to quickly build and maintain effective working relationships.

o    Language skills: fluent in Dutch and English is very important and preferably one other European language.
