Over de functie

The data acquisition subsystem of FEI Electron Microscopes makes extensive use of embedded electronics and FPGA technology. A team of embedded software and FPGA engineers is responsible for developing the required functionality in this domain. We are looking for an FPGA firmware engineer to extend the team.

  Implement image and data processing algorithms in programmable logic.

A major part of the job will consist of actively programming (image) processing algorithms in FPGA. This includes algorithm simulation, high level synthesis, Xilinx Vivado synthesis / analysis tools and hardware testing.

Naturally, documentation is part of the responsibilities. Clear and concise design specifications, software interfaces etc. are expected.

-          Verify algorithm implementations.

Before functions are integrated at system level, extensive verification takes place in the FPGA / embedded domain. We use Python to implement such tests. For regression testing automated verification programs must be created.

-          Contribute to Configuration Management.

All development takes place in a version control environment. Part of the job will be to partake in the setup and maintenance of this environment.

-          Contribute to algorithm development.

Many new processing algorithms are developed by our Advanced Technology group, in close cooperation with the embedded software teams. Contribution is expected in gauging the feasibility of new algorithms in programmable logic and actively performing experiments.

Functie-eisen

Qualifications include:

·         Education: Bachelors or Maters degree in electrical engineering and/or embedded systems.

·         Specialized knowledge: Candidate must be familiar with FPGA based data processing and have a strong affinity with the (hardware) architecture of FPGAs and other embedded processing architectures. Knowledge of High Level Synthesis is a pre.

·         Skills: Digital systems design; (Xilinx) FPGA design environment; VHDL; C; (C++); Python;

·         Personal characteristics: Teamwork; Ownership (taking full responsibility for assigned work);

·         Professional Certification
