Background & Purpose of the Job
The Brand: Knorr is Unilever’s biggest brand with an annual Turn Over of €4.6Bn across both Retail (€3.6Bn) and UFS (€1.1Bn). Present in 87 countries it has a strong footprint in both the Developed and D&E markets and has a long and successful history of close to 180 years. 
The portfolio today is made up of two Platforms: Scratch & Smart Cooking (Bouillon & Seasonings, Meal Solutions & Sauces) and Heat to Eat (Soups and Mini Meals). The portfolio core varies from country to country from Soups in France to Bouillon in Nigeria. The Challenge: for any brand with 180 years history, is how to retain relevance and affinity in an ever-changing world. From the rise of veganism and flexitarianism in the developed world to the ever-increasing demand for meat in the developing world. Food and cuisine continues to evolve and be influenced by the food energies: Trusted Choices, Brave New World, Flexi-Flow, Greater Expectations and Super-Me. Combine this with the rise of the Foods 2.0 brands, E-Commerce and consumers posting pictures of food to Facebook and Instagram daily, food has never been a more challenging and dynamic space to work in than today. To ensure Knorr remains relevant it is imperative that we meet our consumer typologies (Creative Food Explorer, Juggling Family Provider and Striving Inspiration Seeker), demand space needs and do this by a greater understanding of their real consumer journeys from the zero moment of truth to the end dish experience by ensuring that not only our brand is loved, but that our core and future best-sellers from a portfolio perspective rise to the challenge. 

2018/19 will be an exciting new chapter for Knorr in Europe: 

  • Brand Restage: we will start the restage of Knorr with a new Brand Love Key and Purpose “Open hearts and minds through the power of flavour”, a new Brand Communication Identity and a new Brand Visual Identity system. 
  • Portfolio Transformation: with a clear Platform Strategy, a Portfolio Architecture and a healthy funnel in place we now have the space to shift up a gear. We will drive this in two different ways: 
    • Working within the framework of the Platform strategies, we will put more emphasis on empowering the Clusters, working with their lead CCBT’s to continue driving innovation and give them the accountability of scaling proven innovations to other Clusters/ Markets through the Brand Community. By creating a more decentralised and empowered community we should be able to achieve more, faster with clearer accountability. At the same time we still want to leverage synergies across markets.
    • Transformative Innovation/Renovation 

To succeed in the Foods category, you love and live food and believe in our Sustainable Nutrition agenda: 
‘Food that Tastes good, does good and doesn’t cost the earth’. 

Who You Are & What You’ll Do
You will be joining the Mini Meals team – Mini Meals is the fastest growing platform within the European savoury business (+10% FY 2018 & +4.3% YTD19) being in several markets the number 1 priority growth driver. With very big ambition for this category, we need to future proof our current offer as well as expand our portfolio beyond Hot Instant Savoury Snack to unlock further growth in growing categories. You will be expected to lead strategic projects and to inspire the cross-functional business partners (local markets, R&D, Supply Chain…) with a forward thinking & lean mindset to build the future of snacking. The role reports to the European Mini Meals Platform Leader.

We’re looking for someone with the passion, appetite & tenacity to build a superior core through renovations for the future as well as having a keen eye for identifying opportunities for breakout innovation and the execution of it.
  • Future proofing our portfolio in the light of the latest trends (naturalness, healthier habits, salt and sugar concerns…) is becoming highly important in order to attract new consumers and retain the ones that might leave the category. 
  • Executing the innovation roadmap that transforms the portfolio towards the future with breakout mixes.
  • Developing new propositions in line with consumer needs in our current market playground (Snack Pots and Block Noodles segments).
  • Identifying new areas of opportunity to expand our portfolio further and bring additional growth.
  • Delivering projects OTIF to secure launch timings in the countries.
  • Ensuring full alignment with countries and fostering local projects while leveraging European synergies.

  • Experienced and ambitious, with proven capability in leading cross functional innovation projects, ensuring they are aligned to market requirements and to global/regional strategy.
  • Genuine passion/interest in food is highly desirable.
  • Capable of making the complex simple and communicating succinctly.
  • In equal measures, capable of operating strategically, analytically, creatively and pragmatically. 
  • Appetite for portfolio transformation and wanting to have immediate impact in the market. 
  • Resilience in the face of setbacks. Solution oriented.
  • A track record of project leadership and a passion for working with other (culinary) cultures.
  • A willingness to invest to build networks both in-person whilst also being capable to foster relationship remotely.
  • Passion for people.
