Be the change you want to see in the world - M.K. Gandhi
Over de functie
As Senior Scientist Separations you will be responsible for the research and development of safe and innovative next-generation membrane systems within FrieslandCampina. You know how to convert conceptual ideas into research work streams, useful models and system designs. Knowledge is translated to practical process applications and improvements of the performance of existing membrane installations. Product requirements are agreed upon and Critical to Quality process parameters are investigated on lab / pilot scale, with thorough scientific tools and methodologies. The interactions between process and product play a crucial role.
Within the dairy industry membrane technology plays a crucial role due to its ability to separate (milk) components / fractions in a relatively mild way. Also, chromatography is an important technology in separation. To be able for you to master this area of process technology, component-component interactions (e.g. protein, lactose, minerals, etc.) and component-membrane interactions are crucial to know. Furthermore, you will need to combine this expertise with process technological aspects, e.g. fluid dynamics, physical transport phenomena and dynamic modelling, to be able to improve, predict, and develop (new) concepts in this membrane technology area. Knowledge is captured in fit for purpose models. As a Senior Scientist you master the above mentioned knowledge areas to a wide extent.
Within the knowledge area of (membrane) separation external networks play a crucial role. For example, universities, institutes, and membrane suppliers are available for partnering and strategic programming to come up with new membrane technology concepts and scientific advances. Therefore, you will take care of a healthy expansion and maintenance of successful and trusted relations within this external network.
To investigate the concepts on a practical level you will use the membrane pilot facilities in Wageningen and Veghel. You will design, guide, and report the experiments in these facilities, either in the role as project leader or in the role as membrane expert. Reporting should be clearly done in either English or Dutch. During the scale up and implementation phase you will be a part of the project team in the design phase. Furthermore, once built you will also take part in the process validation.
Your position requires to work closely with different departments, such as Supply Chain Performance Excellence, production locations and their Technology departments and other R&D departments (New Product Development, Research) within the Innovation Center.
You will be reporting to the Cluster Leader Separation Technology, who is part of the Global Process Technology team (about 45 people) within Corporate R&D.
- A Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, (bio)process engineering or food technology.
- At least 10 years of experience in membrane technology.
- Being able to bridge technology from science to practice.
- Experience in chromatography is a strong advantage.
- Experienced in the field of fluid dynamics and physical transport phenomena.
- Experienced in physical protein chemistry.
- Proven Project or Programme Management skills.
- Experienced in predictive (first principle) modelling.
- Excellent communication skills in English. Dutch is an advantage.
- Entrepreneurial and open attitude.
- High level of conceptual intellect, able to steer the technology in new FrieslandCampina directions.
Your salary is based on the weighting of your job, your experience and your training. FrieslandCampina does not however only compensate its employees with monetary rewards. We also consider it important for our people to continue to grow. After all, your development is not only good for your career; our products also benefit from it. That’s why we invest in relevant training courses in your particular discipline. The mutual exchange of knowledge between colleagues is also evident on the work floor. It is, after all, the most effective way to learn.
All 20,000 employees at FrieslandCampina share a single passion: getting more out of milk and aim to help people move forward in life.
