Research Assistant - Chemical Sensing

Over de functie

As research assistant chemical sensing, you are working on the formulation, application and testing of chemically responsive coatings for sensor applications in different fields of application (like Geo Energy, Oil and Gas, or Health and Environment). Current focus is in the field of gas sensing for energy (e.g. LNG) and environment, using miniaturized electronic devices that are developed with several external project partners. Furthermore, the development of fiber optic sensors for remote monitoring involves fiber handling, recoating and testing.  You will carry out work in multidisciplinary project teams focusing on the development of advanced functional coatings and polymer nanocomposites with tailor-made sensing properties. You have a background in chemical processing, preferably in the formulation and application of coatings and thin films, using local deposition techniques such as inkjet printing, and micro-dispensing. For the testing of the functional coatings, you will be using electrical and optical characterization techniques.


Typical work activities are:
• Formulation of functional coatings for e.g. sensor applications;
• Application of these functional coatings on complex surfaces (e.g. fibers and electronics);
• Building and adapting test and characterization equipment;
• Testing and validation of the optical and/or electronic performance of functional coatings;
• Synthesis of nanoparticles in liquid dispersion;
• Characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles;
• Reporting of research results in form of presentations or written project reports;
• Proactively collaborating with other members of the project team to realize the targeted project results;
We expect a proactive project member. Preferably you are holding a Bachelor or Master degree with expertise in the field of chemical synthesis and/or processing, preferably coating application and testing. You are a good communicator and able to express your thoughts and findings in a clear concise manner, both orally and written.
